What are the levels? Is there an audition?
There are two track levels at Kind of a Big Deal Weekend:
Beginner/Advanced Beginner and Intermediate/Int-Advanced
Beginner/Advanced Beginner and Intermediate/Int-Advanced
There are no auditions for this year's Kind of a Big Deal Weekend. Tracks are self-selecting. The General Track will feature more time with Nils and Bianca. If you know who they are and want to learn from them, sign up for this track If you don't know who they are, we would recommend signing up for the New Bird Track.
The New Bird Track is designed for the new dancer, the beginner dancer and the dancer that has been dancing a long time but only maybe knows 6-count steps. You will hopefully further your knowledge of the basics, connection, musicality while also picking up a few new moves and options. You will definitely get exposure to the 8-count basics and mixing 6's and 8's. You will get some class time with Nils and Bianca
The General Track is designed for the more experienced dancers. There will be a wide variety of skill levels in this track, we hope that everyone in this track would feel comfortable swinging out, doing a lindy circle, and doing all the basic 6-count moves, side-by-side Charleston, And moving between all of these with some degree of ease.
Check the guidelines are on the registration form as well.
Is the Airsteps Class included in the weekend pass?
No. The Airsteps class is separate. You must sign up with a partner together. Both of you will be required to physically sign a waiver acknowledging the risks involved with airsteps and accepting responsibilties for your actions.
Your partner should be someone you trust. Airsteps require some amount of strength and conditioning, please be aware that whoever is leading, must be able to adequately support whoever is following. There is a great deal of risk of injury doing Airsteps, we will have Nils and Bianca go over safety in doing these moves. Please note: anything you learn in this class should not be executed at a social dance.
I am from out-of-town, is local housing available?
We, unfortunately don't have the bandwidth to match everyone up with a local host. We recommend trying your Boston friends first. And then posting something on the Facebook event page. Please let us know if you can't find anything and we will see what we can do. info@bostonswingcentral.org
Are there opportunities to volunteer?
Yes! Volunteers with weekend passes are given priority and will receive a refund for part of their pass. Please email our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@bostonswingcentral.org to check for availability.
Why do Canadians get a discount?
The current exchange rate is brutal. Which makes KOABD very expensive for Canadians. We want to help them out and let our Canadian lindy hop friends know that we value them at KOABD! And we hope they bring their awesome energy! No tariffs from BSC.I bought a pass but can no longer make it, can I get a refund?
There are no refunds. However, you can go to the Facebook event page and sell your pass to someone else. Transfers of passes must be completed by April 3rd and transfers from the New Bird -> General Track will have to pay the difference. Please arrange a transfer by emailing: info@bostonswingcentral.orgCan I pay for a class at the door?
We recommend purchasing your pass in advance. Ala carte class passes are NOT available. We may offer Saturday-only, Sunday-only day passes at some time in late February/early March. Full weekend passes may be available up until April 11th.Will evening tickets be available at the door?
